¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Ostmodern partnered with World Vision Canada (WVC) to develop a comprehensive design system, creating a single source of truth that aligns their digital products with their strategic vision.
Amid a strategic overhaul, WVC recognised the need for a refreshed and newly documented design system to help streamline their digital products.
Over time WVC found their design properties were lacking consistency and the process of onboarding new designers and partners was hard to follow and govern. As a longstanding design partner, Ostmodern was uniquely positioned to deliver a documented design system that would provide much needed cohesion and push WVC’s design language in a more progressive, user centric direction. It was essential that any solution was documented in a way that helped facilitate delivery for product owners, designers, developers (both internal and external).
Lumen was organised into the following key sections:
To accurately represent WVC's design system in documented form, Lumen’s Figma design system file is always in-sync with Zero Height's documentation. This guarantees that all components and styles remain perfectly aligned at all times.
The Foundations section of Lumen offers principles and guidelines to support strategic decision-making, while Components and Patterns serve as either a strong framework for quickly implementing features with shared objectives or as building blocks for developing new solutions that maintain the same level of consistency and quality.
Zero Height's restyling flexibility allowed us to closely match the look and feel of Lumen's documentation with the design system. When suitable, a diagrammatic approach was employed to illustrate how components, patterns, and templates function for creation, adoption, and implementation.
A dynamic living system
Lumen was built to be a living system, capable of evolving as WVC's digital products grow. We provided guidelines for the creation and governance of new assets, ensuring future additions would align with the existing system.
Lumen offers World Vision Canada a robust framework that ensures consistent digital product design and developmen. It’s a visual, user-friendly tool that supports seamless collaboration across teams and external partners. With full ownership of Lumen, WVC is equipped to navigate cultural and strategic changes, scaling its digital products efficiently. The system’s centralised, comprehensive nature helps reduce costs, boosts operational efficiency, and guarantees consistency across all their digital ecosystem.
'Working together with Ostmodern on our WVC Lumen design system has been transformative for us. Its trailblazing approach not only modernizes our digital experience but takes us closer to becoming a truly product-first organization that maximizes value and impact to our partners, supporters, and participants in our programs around the world. The new Lumen design system empowers our teams to innovate faster and set a new digital benchmark within the charity sector.'
